Contemporary Italian Religious Literature

Contemporary Italian Religious Literature

Through the specific study of some significant works by Ungaretti, Pasolini, Testori, Eco, Tamaro and others, the spiritual evolution of Italian culture from the early twentieth century to today is outlined. The course includes readings and critical interpretations, with the aim of highlighting the roots of modern Europe: equality and respect for merit, brotherhood on an individualistic and democratic basis, tolerance and freedom. The main themes of the analyzed literary examples are compared with the fundamental stylistic model for modern Italian fiction: "I promessi sposi" by Alessandro Manzoni.
Students can choose between two specific periods: A) From 1945 to 1980 - B) From 1980 to the present time.
